Dilapidated buildings are redeveloped into new buildings of modern standard and environmentally-friendly design with provision of smart features. Through comprehensive planning, redevelopment also improves the built environment and infrastructure in old urban districts with provision of more greening, public open space and community facilities.

The URA has implemented over 72 projects, providing about 29,000 square metres of public open space, some 65,000 square metres of new Government/ Institution and Community facilities as well as about 24,200 residential flats and about 448,000 square metres of commercial space.

For better planning and greater social benefits, the URA makes its first step in adopting a “district-based” approach in Kowloon City/To Kwa Wan district. Based on the URA's Area Planning Study in Kowloon City/To Kwa Wan district, the URA has taken a holistic and district-based approach in planning and implementing eight redevelopment projects with a view to rejuvenating the area with a more effective road network with enhanced accessibility. An underground communal car park will also be provided in one of the redevelopment sites to avoid carpark entrances at individual developments which will destroy the streetscape. Street vibrancy will also be retained with more frontage for street shops.
