The URA attaches importance in inspiring young people to explore the urban renewal issues from different perspectives. Through the collaboration and partnership programmes with various organisations, the URA has implemented a wide range of education and outreach programmes, with an aim to stimulate the students to better understand the community and urban renewal issues such as local history and culture as well as the sustainable development of Hong Kong.
This year, the URA becomes the strategic partner of the “Create Your District” Competition 2018 organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. The competition aims at encouraging students to explore the rich history and cultural traditions of the Wan Chai District, and demonstrate their creativity by designing an ideal community for Wan Chai. It also serves to educate the younger generation about the importance of sustainable development in Hong Kong.
To better prepare students for the competition, workshops and guided tours in Wan Chai have been organised in July to familiarise them with the district, including its location characteristics, economic position, site conditions and the relationship with its surrounding area. After the workshop, Students are required to illustrate a designated area of Wan Chai, and to project the district in an ideal state from surveyors’point of view.
More than a hundred local students from Form 3-6 signed up for the competition. Students are expected to use 3D model or multimedia video to present their work about the ideal Wan Chai.
The team that can best demonstrate the importance of sustainable development at their work will be awarded the “Urban Renewal Authority (URA) Community & Sustainable Development Award”.
