"Bling Bling for Urban Renewal" Drama Competition 2015/16

Introduction

While we enjoy quality living in a modern city, some have a deep sense of longing for the past. How can we make the balance and have the city sustainable?

Urban Renewal Authority (URA) is going to celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2016. According to the Urban Renewal Strategy, URA is tasked to adopt “Redevelopment” and “Rehabilitation” as its core businesses under the Urban Renewal Strategy comprising redevelopment, rehabilitation, heritage preservation and revitalisation to improve the living conditions of residents in dilapidated urban.

In run-down areas in Hong Kong, many people are still living in overcrowded, unsafe and dilapidated buildings without basic amenities. A huge number of industrial buildings are left obsolete due to the rapid economic transformation.

Through this drama competition, we are inviting secondary school students to express their aspirations and views on bringing vibrancy to our city with an ultimate aim to achieve sustainable development.

The competition will be conducted in two rounds:

  • Four scripts will be shortlisted in the first round to enter the finale in December 2015
  • All shortlisted teams will be invited to attend a workshop hosted by Hong Kong Repertory Theatre on acting and stage production in January 2016
  • A finale (2nd round) on 18 March 2016
