Since 2017, the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) partners with the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) in the Young Leaders Programme to nuture young talents with creativity and skills in problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and project management. This year students are encouraged to observe and understand the urban problems of To Kwa Wan by using spatial data, and unleash their creativity to enhance the livability and build a sustainable living enviornment in the district.
After a series of training sessions and nine months of preparation, the participating students from 18 TWGHs secondary schools have submitted their proposals and the top proposals from 8 TWGHs schools were shortlisted.
The shortlisted TWGHs secondary schools are:
- Chen Zao Men College (陳兆民中學);
- Kap Yan Directors'College (甲寅年總理中學);
- Li Ka Shing College (李嘉誠中學);
- Lui Yun Choy Memorial College (呂潤財紀念中學);
- Mrs. Fung Wong Fung Ting College (馮黃鳳亭中學);
- Mrs. Wu York Yu Memorial College (伍若瑜夫人紀念中學);
- Wong Fut Nam College (黃笏南中學), and
- Yow Kam Yuen College(邱金元中學)
In August, students presented their ideas at the pop-up exhibition in 618 Shanghai Street to showcase their work to the public and conducted a formal presentation to Ir Wai Chi Sing, Managing Director of the URA and Mr Albert Su, the Chief Executive of TWGHs and Paul Tsui, the Chief Executive of Esri (China) Hong Kong.
The TWGHs Li Ka Shing College was awarded the "Livable Community Award" and the TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College was awarded the "Best Use of GIS Award" by the judging panel. "Creativity Award" and "Best Presentation Award" was given to TWGHs Lui Yun Choy Memorial College and TWGHs Mrs. Fung Wong Fung Ting College respectively. "People's Choice Award", voted by public, belongs to TWGHs Kap Yan Directors'College.
