Welcome to the Urban Renewal Exploration Centre

Since 2009, the Urban Renewal Exploration Centre (‘UREC’) has been providing students, community organisations and visitors with information about the urban renewal in Hong Kong, including the problem of urban decay and the mission and work of the Urban Renewal Authority (‘URA’). The UREC, located in H6 CONET, a community space on the ground floor of The Center, presents a real-life experience of dilapidated housing, interesting exhibits, interactive multimedia facilities and sharing corner. It aims to inspire visitors to understand and approach urban renewal issues from various perspectives.

Real-Life Experience on Dilapidated Housing

This presents a real-life experience of dilapidated housing with small cubicles, caged homes and cockloft, which provides the visitors with better understanding of the poor living conditions in old districts. Some exhibits are collected from the authentic premises in the old districts.

Augmented Reality (AR) (only applicable to guided tour with tablet provided on site)

Through the AR technology, the visitors are given a more intense visual impact of urban decay problem. With the AR effects mapping on the building models, the visitors can explore and identify various conditions of buildings in different age groups.

Kinect Game

Through the Kinect Game, the visitors can go through various rehabilitation work such as fixing concrete spalling, rooftop, fire services installations and preventive maintenance.

UR Info Hub

Project and scheme details are available at the 32-point touch screen UR Info Hub. With a mobile device pre-installed with UREC’s app, visitors can take away project information just swiping them into their mobile device.
